About Me
My name is Jaala, a name I’ve only recently come to love. For years, I wished to be a Jane or Jessica – something simple, something people could spell without asking twice.
When I was born, my father was just 23 and completely enchanted by his new baby girl. He decided to knit me a pair of burgundy mittens, a little wonky, but full of love. While flicking through the knitting book, he found the name Jaala, meaning Divine Surprise, and so that became my name.
Over time I discovered that Jaala carries many meanings: fire, water, rose, spider’s web… and she-goat! People often asked where it came from, and I would reply, “It’s Indian, Hebrew, Vietnamese, Iranian, and Ancient Egyptian.” Eventually, I grew tired of the questions and began going by Jazz: short, easy, memorable.
So I’m Jaala to some, Jazz to most, but whoever I am to you, I’m truly glad you’re here.
Names may change, but the feeling I’ve carried inside me has always stayed the same. Like many starseeds out there, I’ve always felt that Earth was never quite my home. As a child, I would gaze at the night sky, longing for somewhere I couldn’t name. A place that felt like home in my soul. Over time, the homesickness grew so heavy that I stopped looking up, except for fleeting glances when the stars softly called to me.
At ten, I discovered astrology and tarot, and my lifelong journey into the unseen began. Reading cards came naturally, and soon I was reading feathers, charms, water, smoke, and crystals too.
My curiosity then led me to study massage, Reiki, and energy healing. Born into a long line of Māori tohunga – healers and seers – I draw on the strength and wisdom of my ancestors in the work I do today. I’ve come to understand that our bodies carry unspoken emotions, and that true healing arises when we listen to what they are trying to tell us.
My greatest teacher has been my son, Ashton. He radiated calm and peace, soothing those around him with his presence alone. Though his time here ended too soon in 2025, at just 19, his spirit remains a part of all I do. In his honour, Ashala was born – Ashton and Jaala, forever connected.
Through Ashala, I offer a space where you can lay down your burdens and be gently reminded of the hope, peace, and wholeness that are always within you. My wish is for you to feel clear, calm, and renewed, and to know that a life of love, joy, and connection is not only possible, but waiting for you.
Welcome Home.
